A Benefit Performance for the ECHS Music Program

October 3, 2010

ECHS Performing Arts Theatre 540 Ashbury Avenue El Cerrito, CA 94530

When the alumni of ECHS band director Paul Yonemura (1985 to 1991) heard about the current financial crisis for the ECHS band program, we decided there was only one way to respond-with music. We're getting that band back together!

Join us for a once in a lifetime performance. Alumni are coming back from across the Bay Area, across the country and across the world to perform. Joined by the current music students of ECHS, this will be a concert to remember.

Along with ticket sales, T-Shirts, and other memorabilia, the El Cerrito High School music boosters, Friends of El Cerrito Music (FOECM) will be offering tiered sponsorship packages, including the sponsorship of individual theatre seats inside the school's 600 seat Performing Arts auditorium. Please visit our website for additional information.

FOECM will also be sponsoring a bake sale. For information on how to participate, please call Donna Houser 510-234-2251

Logistics:
The Reunion Concert event will be held over the weekend of October 2nd, 2010, with rehearsals and dinner reception on Saturday October 2nd, and the concert itself on Sunday October 3rd at 2pm in El Cerrito High School's new state-of-the-art performing arts auditorium.

Gaucho alum Eddie Gee is planning an all ECHS Reunion BBQ on Saturday, July 17 2010 from 1:00-7:00 p.m. The information below is on the "El Cerrito Reunion Events" webpage on Facebook:

Its finally here! The 2nd annual EC Reunion BBq. Last year was great so we are going to continue to keep the Gaucho love going. The BBQ is going to be on July 17th at 1pm until 7pm...We are going to keep it the same as we did last year as far as the donation/cost for everyone to enjoy it.

$15 for each Gaucho and your family up to 4 people
$20 for the Gaucho and your family from 4 to 7 people

We can send you an invoice for the donation or you can go to paypal and just pay the amount under the email gauchoreunion@gmail.com

You can also donate extra if you want/can to help those folks who might be a little short. We are going to try and make sure we have just as much fun as we did last year if not more.

If anyone wants to help with planning, just hit us on FB or email us and we can arrange that. You can also volunteer to bring other items such as side dishes, drinks, desserts.

If you have any other questions, please email at gauchoreunion@gmail.com or leave a note on FB.

May Newsletter

Here's hoping all of you are looking forward to a great summer! And thanks to those of you helping to track down classmates via Facebook or other websites...we have emails for over 35% of our class! Keep sending them to our classwebsite...you know who they are!

Many apologies for the delay in getting the registration/ticket purchasing feature ready on the website; for those of us still beholden to the academic calendar, May is a busy time. It’s a high priority and we’ll notify you as soon as it’s ready to go.

Sadly, last month saw two influential members of the ECHS family pass away. Mr. James Morehouse, longtime administrator at El Cerrito and athletic star James “Pops” Mitchell, class of ’84. You can learn more about the great services and programs funded by the James Morehouse Project at El Cerrito High and read an article from the Contra Costa County Times. And, our class condolences to Angela Mitchell-Doxey on the loss of her brother. An article about James also appeared in the Contra Costa County Times.

As for reunion news, a few of you have asked us to consider other fun activities to make it a true Gaucho reunion weekend. We’d like to know what you think!

(A) Any interest in a tour of the new El Cerrito High if it’s scheduled for the Friday before the reunion, on September 24?

(b) How do folks feel about a noon-ish families-welcome bring-your-own-everything bbq on Sunday, September 26?

Please visit the poll on the website and let us know what you think! If there’s sufficient interest, we’ll pull something together.

Your ’85 Reunion Committee,

Amy Ream, Andrea Lum, Kris Fosselius Bonetati, Wally Layton, and Wanda Brooks Williams

April 2010

Dear Gauchos,

Happy April to everyone! Just a quick note to say thanks for all the email addresses and profile additions we've received since last month. Think of it as Six Degrees of Gauchos--with your help through Facebook, LinkedIn, Classmates and other sites, we're hoping to reach as many Gauchos as possible!

Part of the urgency to get updated information is due to the postcard mailing set to go out next month. ECHS provided us with the class of '85s last known address--as in, from 1985. Now's the time to let us know your mailing address and create a profile; otherwise, you’ll have to hope your mom or dad don’t throw it out.

Onto reunion news…yay, we’ve got a dj! Thanks to Mychael Heuer, we hired a great dj—Anthony Hutson. He graduated from Berkeley High, class of ’85, and is the owner of Fresh2DefMusic. Check him out at: http://www.fresh2defmusic.com/Welcome.html When it gets closer, he’ll ask us for what songs we do and don’t want to hear at the reunion…what, no Miley Cyrus??

And, we’ve got a photographer! Orange Photography http://www.orangephotography.com/ will be there to capture the moments for everyone. After the big night, we’ll have a link to their website so you can see all the photos. The plan is to have them take candids and also set aside a time for people to take group shots. Say “El Cerrito”!

You'll see we've got a new information on hotels near Jack London Square. We’re not making any recommendations (just don't forget about the proximity of Jack London Square to Amtrak!), only providing a list for you to make your own decision. Feel free to email Andrea with information on other places that should be included, too.

Only six months to go!

Amy Ream, Andrea Lum, Kris Fosselius Bonetati, Wally Layton, and Wanda Brooks Williams
