Ruth Protter (Teacher)

Ruth Claire Rotman Protter Feb. 28, 1922 - Nov. 20, 2008. Age 86 Resident of Berkeley. Born in Providence R.I. Received her BA, R.I.C.E. Masters Degree, English Literature at Brown Univ. Ruth Protter, loving wife of Murray Protter and mother of Barbara Protter Robison of Overland Park, KS and Philip Protter of Ithaca, NY, died November 20, 2008 after a long battle with Parkinsons' Disease. Ruth taught English her whole life, first at Rhode Island School of Design, then as a reader and teaching assistant at Cal Berkeley to Professor George R. Stewart, and finally for many years as a member of the faculty of El Cerrito High School. In addition to her two children, she leaves four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is remembered for her lifetime commitment to learning and to helping others learn in all possible ways, for her love of education, for her friendliness to all and her vivacious nature, and most of all for her limitless capacity for love, given without reservation to her husband of 63 years and to all the members of her devoted family.
